MPEG-4 natural audio coding
نویسندگان
چکیده
MPEG-4 audio represents a new kind of audio coding standard. Unlike its predecessors, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 high-quality audio coding, and unlike the speech coding standards which have been completed by the ITU-T, it describes not a single or small set of highly e$cient compression schemes but a complete toolbox to do everything from low bit-rate speech coding to high-quality audio coding or music synthesis. The natural coding part within MPEG-4 audio describes traditional type speech and high-quality audio coding algorithms and their combination to enable new functionalities like scalability (hierarchical coding) across the boundaries of coding algorithms. This paper gives an overview of the basic algorithms and how they can be combined. ( 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights

An Overview of Mpeg - 4 Audio
The MPEG-4 Audio Standard provides audio and speech coding for natural and synthetic content at bitrates ranging from 2 to 64 kbit/s and above. While the first version of MPEG-4 Audio was finalised in 1998, work continues for Version 2, complementing MPEG-4 Audio by the following new tools: Error Resilience, Low-Delay Audio Coding, Small Step Scalability, Parametric Audio Coding, and Environmen...
متن کاملCoding of natural audio in MPEG-4
MPEG-4 standardizes natural audio coding at bitrates ranging from 2 kbit/s, suitable for intelligible speech coding, to 64 kbitls per channel, suitable for high-quality audio coding. Within this range, three categories of coding are defined: parametric coding, Code Excited Linear Predictive coding (CELP) and time/frequency (T/F) coding. The unique contribution of MPEG4 audio is that not only do...
متن کاملMPEG-4: An Object-Based Multimedia Coding Standard Supporting Mobile Applications
The ISO MPEG committee, after successful completion of the MPEG-1 and the MPEG-2 standards is currently working on MPEG-4, the third MPEG standard. Originally, MPEG-4 was conceived to be a standard for coding of limited complexity audio-visual scenes at very low bit-rates; however, in July 1994, its scope was expanded to include coding of scenes as a collection of individual audio-visual object...
متن کاملGeneralized Audio Coding with Mpeg-4 Structured Audio
The MPEG-4 Structured Audio standard was created to enable high-quality, very-low-bitrate transmission of synthetic sound. However, structured-audio techniques also are suitable for flexible natural audio coding. This paper introduces the concept of generalized audio coding, in which the Structured Audio decoder is used to emulate the behavior of other audio decoders. We prove that the MPEG-4 S...
متن کاملControlling and Efficient Coding of MPEG-4 Compliant Avatars
The MPEG-4 includes support not only for natural video and audio, but also for synthetic graphics and sounds. MPEG-4 Version 2 includes the representation of human bodies in addition to faces. In the MPEG-4 Version 2 Committee Draft, Body Animation Parameters (BAPs) and Body Definition Parameters (BDPs) allow virtual bodies to be streamed in very low bit rates and provide deformation of body su...
